In addition to accreditation, Swedac is responsible for assessment of Notified Bodies, which are bodies that issue certificates of conformity with EU directives, and of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CAB), which are authorised to assess conformity in accordance with Mutual Recognition Agreements (see International cooperation). Swedac assesses the competence of these bodies in a similar manner to that employed for accreditation, and then officially notifies them to the European Commission.
