Validation and Verification

ISO/IEC 17029 is an international standard that specifies requirements for the competent, consistent and impartial conduct of validation and verification activities. Swedac accredits bodies operating in accordance with this standard across several areas. This page describes the standard, the applicable requirements and how Swedac carries out accreditation.

Accreditation is based on both international and national regulatory frameworks. The central standard is ISO/IEC 17029 for validation and verification. For verifications related to environmental programmes, such as greenhouse gas verification, ISO 14065 also applies. The requirements additionally include Swedac’s regulations and general guidelines on accreditation (STAFS 2020:1).

Swedac accredits verification bodies within the following areas:

To ensure quality and trust, requirements are set for areas such as procedures, processes, information management and impartiality. Swedac may also participate in validation or verification activities and review documentation from previous assignments.
